JAPAN FISHING ADVENTURES – WORLD CLASS TRAVEL FISHING HEAVEN

JAPAN FISHING ADVENTURES – WORLD CLASS TRAVEL FISHING HEAVEN
It’s been almost 6 years since I purchased the Rigged and Ready World Traveler in preparation for my first fishing adventure to Sweden and WOW, did I ever think it would take me on a journey that would change my life forever!
I’m Harry, a loyal Rigged and Ready user since 2019. I came to Japan 2 years ago on a fishing trip and never went home. Now I manage Japan Fishing Adventures, a guiding fishing business in Hokkaido, Japan. Travelers can experience world-class trout fishing in Hokkaido yet it remains outside the typical fishing vacation lists. Why is this, you may ask? Well…There're a few reasons for this, but rather than speculate on the reasons why, let’s change that fact and let you and world know about what they are missing!
About Japan Fishing Adventures
We provide trips across Japan, for varying abilities and anglers. From bait fishing in the middle of a snowy wonderland, lure fishing for Kingfish off the rocks too fly fishing in Hokkaido. We have you covered; we can be sure of that!
The majority of our trips are Hokkaido focused because fishing in Hokkaido offers some of the best fishing in the world. Enjoy unbelievable summer fly fishing across the island for wild trout species in addition to seasonal trips that can only be done a couple of months a year! We've researched all things fishing in Hokkaido and we highly suggest you come and check it out if you're a fanatical angler!
You can also find trips running out of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka and our range of trips is growing year on year. Enjoy Largemouth Bass fishing from Osaka or Kyoto or head out into Tokyo Bay and catch Suzuki and other crazy sea fish!

Whether you are a passionate lure fisherman or an elegant fly fisherman, Hokkaido fits the bill for all. Wild browns, wild rainbows and incredibly beautiful native species such as White Spotted Char and Yamame are all lying in wait for an avid angler. Whether that’s on the fly or on a lure set up the rivers are stuffed with Salmonids which devour both small fish and the abundant fly life year-round!

Scenery You’ll Never Forget
Japan is positioned on the edge of two tectonic plates meaning it creates some jaw dropping mountain scenery along with volcanoes and an incredibly unique and wild eco-system. When most people think of Japan, they think of Tokyo and big cities, but Hokkaido couldn’t be further than this. Hokkaido has a population of 5 million people with 3 million living in Sapporo (The island Capital). With the island being the size of Austria, it means there is endless amounts of untouched wilderness and when there is untouched wilderness it means great fishing!
More Than Just a Fishing Holiday
There are not many fishing destinations that can truly market themselves as more than a fishing destination. Hokkaido truly is. Experience a whole new culture and a whole new world, with lots of things to see and do outside of fishing. And we cannot forget the food! Japan as we know is a foodie paradise and as such experience something different every night! Whether it's Sushi, Ramen, Yakiniku or Teppanyaki, there really is something for everyone!
The Fish Rig Super-Light rods are a favourite of Japan Fishing Adventures
But Why Rigged and Ready?
As a guide here, I chose Rigged and Ready due to the nature of some of our tours. Often, we walk deep in the bear infested mountains and a compact set up is perfect to navigate through the trees and deep bush! Having something small and robust is critical and Rigged and Ready rods such as the X5 Combination, Infinite fly rod & Fish Rig 165, are perfect rods for our adventures. Having the flexibility to be able to fish all rivers and streams big or small means that any piece of water is fishable, in addition to knowing the rods are capable of coping with 80-90cm Salmonids, the Rigged and Ready travel fishing package is ideal!

How to Get a Fishing Licence for Tourists in Japan
Japan provides extraordinary fishing experiences to those who enjoy fishing as well as casual hobbyists. It provides diverse water bodies that extend from peaceful mountain streams to deep ocean depths. Prior to fishing you need to understand the rules and steps for getting a fishing licence while visiting Japan.
Even the fishing license and maps are as cool as the locations
Fishing Regulations in Japan
Fishing in Japan is regulated to preserve ecological balance and conserve aquatic resources. Your planned kind of fishing decides if you require a licence or permit. Usually, there are three key categories:
- Freshwater Fishing: Typically requires a fishing licence or permit. This covers reservoir, lake, and river fishing. Local fishing cooperatives run several freshwater fishing sites, which grant day or yearly permits.
- Saltwater Fishing: Fishing from both shore locations and public piers requires no fees and licence for participation. However, fishing on a boat or in specific places often requires licences. Some fish kinds also have seasonal and size limits to help avoid overfishing.
- Commercial and Recreational Deep-Sea Fishing: You will probably require a special permit if you intend to engage in deep-sea fishing activities or fish for a living. Often, fishing cruises and charter vessels get these licences for their clients. Japan also has certain regulations on fishing techniques and catch limits for species including tuna, snapper, and squid.

Where to Obtain a Fishing Licence
Japan Fishing Adventures can arrange your licence, however, should you wish to get your own licences are issued by local fishery cooperatives, known as Gyokyo or by regional government offices. Here’s where to get a licence:
- Local Fishery Cooperatives: These are the most common sources for obtaining a fishing permit. Each region or fishing area may have its own cooperative that oversees licencing.
- Tackle Shops: Local cooperatives work with fishing tackle shops to provide day permits to their customers.
- Tourist Information Centres: Tourist information centres that serve popular fishing locations help visitors obtain permits through their guidance services.
- Online Platforms: Some regions now offer online applications for fishing permits, but this varies by area and may require proficiency in Japanese.
The traditional Japanese fishing practices focus on treating both nature and traditional community standards with respect. The fishing community expects visitors to behave correctly while maintaining cleanliness during and after their fishing activities. Hokkaido and beyond deliver experiences like no other whether one is looking for the best fishing in Japan or simply a new adventure.
