INTO THE WILDERNESS WITH MARTIN GROVE – VILDMARK ADVENTURES & RIGGED & READY ROD REVIEWS

If you enjoy adventure, wilderness travel and fishing in remote places, there’s a good chance you’ve already come across Martin Grove and his growing YouTube and Instagram channel, Vildmark.

The name Vildmark comes from the Swedish word for wilderness, and it perfectly reflects Martin’s approach to life outdoors. Based in the UK but rarely staying still for long, Martin spends much of his time exploring wild landscapes, travelling light and finding new places to fish. His adventures often combine packrafting, camping and fishing, allowing him to reach waters that most anglers never see. The aim is simple: minimal gear, maximum freedom and time spent in the wild.

A Love of Sweden and the Wild

A Love of Sweden and the Wild

Sweden holds a special place for Martin. The country’s vast forests, countless lakes and quiet rivers provide the perfect setting for the kind of exploration he loves. It is a landscape built for lightweight travel, where packrafts, compact gear and reliable fishing equipment make it possible to move easily between lakes and rivers.
From paddling across calm Scandinavian lakes to trekking into remote waterways with a rod strapped to his pack, Martin’s adventures are built around mobility, simplicity and spending time in places where nature still feels untouched.

Author of Lakes, Lures, and Laughter

Martin’s passion for wilderness travel and fishing also led him to write his first book, Lakes, Lures, and Laughter. The book follows a packrafting fishing expedition through the lakes and forests of Glaskogen in Sweden.

Part travel story, part fishing adventure, the book captures the unpredictable nature of wilderness journeys, from quiet mornings paddling across misty lakes to the chaos that often comes with travelling and fishing in remote places. Like Martin’s videos, it mixes practical outdoor experience with humour and honest storytelling from life in the wild.

Long-Time Rigged and Ready User

Martin has been using Rigged and Ready travel rods for many years and has become a trusted advisor to the brand. His fishing often takes place in challenging environments where gear must be compact, reliable and easy to transport, making travel rods a natural choice.
Recently he has been putting several Rigged and Ready rods through their paces and filming detailed review videos for anglers who want practical insight before choosing their own travel setup. His testing style is honest and hands-on, focusing on how the rods actually perform on real adventures rather than in a studio.

From Fishing Rods to Dog Sleds – Fjällräven Polar 2026

From Fishing Rods to Dog Sleds

At the end of this month, Martin’s adventures will take a very different turn. Instead of carrying a fishing rod into the wilderness, he will be swapping it for the handlebars of a dog sled.
Martin has been selected as one of just 20 participants in the Fjällräven Polar, a legendary Arctic expedition that sees people from around the world travel across the frozen landscapes of northern Scandinavia by dog sled.
The expedition attracts enormous interest each year, with more than 30,000 applicants hoping to take part. From that global pool, only twenty people are chosen to represent different countries and backgrounds.

Martin in Arctic tundra

Over several days, the group will travel hundreds of kilometres across the Arctic tundra, learning how to care for sled dogs, manage extreme winter conditions and live in one of the harshest environments on earth.

For Martin, whose adventures usually involve packrafts and fishing rods, the Fjällräven Polar represents a completely new challenge. But at its heart it is still the same idea that drives everything he does through Vildmark — exploring wild places, pushing personal limits and experiencing nature in its rawest form.
