THE WORLD TRAVELLER – RIGGED AND READY’S ORIGINAL TRAVEL ROD - AND STILL ONE OF THE FAVOURTIES

By Riggy
So, tell me about the World Traveller Combination and what do you think we need to get fishing?
This is something we are continually asked. So here goes. This is my view about what I do. Other anglers will differ. Lastly, you don’t need to buy this all from Rigged and Ready. Of course, if you want to, we are more than happy J
WORLD TRAVELLER ROD & REEL COMBINATION
The World Traveller Combo, featuring the Smuggler 6 Rod, was the first rod and reel combination, Rigged and Ready ever produced. It is a super-compact travel rod designed for general fishing (float, ledger, feeder) and spin and lure fishing. With 2 tips the rod has 2 cast weights, to cover various fishing needs. Paired with an RR3000 reel, and spare spool, the whole combination comes in its own protective case to Go Anywhere and Fish Everywhere.

UNIQUE FISHING TECHNOLOGIES & INNOVATIONS
Although the rod looks like many travel rods, there are still unseen innovations. The rod blank is our unique SRF blend of carbon, graphite, hi-glass, and Zylon. Zylon (used by NASA on Mars landers) is 10x stronger than Kevlar. This unique blend provides excellent flexibility combined with strength. If the rod were made solely of carbon, the super-compact sections would be prone to breaking. The rod joints are also small male into large female. These are all hand finished to provide a unique rod, with a perfect curve in the rod when handling fish. The 2 unique to Rigged and Ready “Interchange” tips are solid fibreglass tips to avoid unneeded breaks on any fishing adventure.
RR3000 SPINNING REEL
The RR3000 spinning reel, comes with 2 spare spools and a soft protective case. It is designed to be rugged and durable. It is salt treated to prevent rust and incorporate innovations. The reel is a 3000 size, which is the most popular for all-round fishing. It can be used either in a left or right wind.
ESSENTIAL LINE & TACKLE
FISHING BRAID
Is much better than any other line. Far stronger. You just need to make sure you tie a braid knot… no big deal… just an extra loop… If not, it slips and that could be terrible. I would put a different braid on each of the spools. One lighter than the other, so depending on what fish you are after you can change. For now, I think you just want to catch so the main spool should have a 10lb braid.
For the other spool. On the plastic spool, put something heavier just in case like 22lb braid.
If you are not a fan of braided line, then use 15lb mono on the main reel spool (the minimum recommended for pike fishing) and 5 or 6lb on the other. Spare spools are available on our website
NOTE SPOOLING LINE… It’s easy to spool line… Look on YouTube or ask me to find you a link. Knots are easy. Personally, I rely on one versatile knot for almost everything. With braid, ensure you use a knot specifically designed for it (like a Palomar or Uni knot) and always test it to ensure it doesn’t slip.

FISHING FLUOROCARBON. For the last 1m before the hook use fluorocarbon line. This is invisible under water. You will need light fluorocarbon (e.g., 4lb) for most fishing and heavier (e.g., 12lb) for bigger fish.
This is our preferred method/approach. You can of course use mono line or buy premade hook links, where the hooks are attached

NON-ESSENTIAL TACKLE
FISHING PLYERS
Pliers or scissors that can cut line and traces and if needed unhook fish. We have some, however you may have them already. If you are PIKE fishing… I don’t suggest it yet if you are new to fishing; you need long nosed pliers and a leather glove… You can easily catch one when you go after small fish and often, they will eat the small fish you have caught before it comes in…. A little research will help… and you'll likely only make the mistake once! Research how to handle pike safely. A top tip: when placed on their back (often secured between your knees), they tend to lie still… making it much easier to deal with those teeth without them gnashing at you!
NAIL CLIPPERS
Nail clippers… always useful.
LANDING NET
You can land fish by hand, but it's easy to regret it. Fish are slippery creatures and can easily escape, or worse, get injured. We do a tiny fold away one. This also protects the fish from damage. We always suggest catch and release and barbless fishing to protect fish and fish stocks.
UNHOOKING MAT
If you take social media photos with a fish placed on the ground, avoid showing it on rocks… You'll receive criticism about fish care. Unhooking mat or cheaper wet towel is ok.

SMALL LURES (or big if you want)
There are 2 in your tackle box, however you will, like us all lose some…I prefer small lures if I want to be sure to catch fish. The choice is endless
SOFT RUBBER LURES AND JIGS
Now the big trend fishing with soft rubber lures. For knowledge and choice how to fish these, best check out YouTube or ask a friend.
SPLIT SHOT, OTHER WEIGHTS, SWIVELS
You need to make sure these are non-lead, which is in the process of being banned (quite rightly). You will need weights of various sizes, to be able to cast and balance your various fishing needs from float fishing to ledgering. A selection of quick release swivels will also come in useful. You can find some of these in the Fish Rig Essential tackle box.
HOOKS & HOOKS TO LINE, FLOATS
A selection of sizes to cover all sorts of fishing. You may use your own leader or buy hooks to line. We have various hooks, hooks to line and weight sets here to cover most of your fishing needs. Some floats are in the Fish Rig Essential tackle box. If you can make sure hooks are barbless for better fish care and safer for you.

TOWEL
Even if you have an unhooking mat, have a small hand towel. If you ever catch a bream, you will email me to thank me for that tip!
Please do send us your fishing adventure stories and pictures. If we use them on our social you will get a free Rigged and Ready cap, that's only given to anglers featured in our news/social media.

The Short Tip Max fits the bottom 4 sections of the rod, making it very powerful with a cast weight of 100g. The Fine Tip and Extra Fine Tip reduce the cast weights down to 10g for super light, sensitive fishing.
YES… YOU CAN MAKE IT INTO A FLY ROD!
Yes, with 2 additions your World Traveller can become a fly rod. You need the Fly Handle and Fly Tip to do this. The fly rod will be exactly the same length. Yes, a little short for traditional fly fishing, however still great!
