X5 – THE GAME CHANGING FISHING ROD

I have had every combination when it comes to fishing, from fly fishing to sea fishing and everything in between.
I have had that much fishing stuff it has been like packing for holiday whenever I’ve gone out for a session.
At some point I got to the stage where I thought this is getting ridiculous as I was seriously considering buying a small van just to fit my fishing gear in when I went fishing.
After sitting down and looking at all of the gear that I had and realising that some of it I hadn’t used in over a year. I decided to sit down and seriously look at the way that I approached my fishing.
I had already start on the journey of making my kit smaller thanks to a company called Rigged & Ready Travel Fishing Rods.
In my kit was their travel fishing net which is easily capable of handling the size fish that I target as it isn’t very often that I’m chasing anything over 15-20lb. I also had their very nice Travel Mat Max which is perfect for when you are practicing catch and release, it even has a handy measure on it to measure your fish.
I started out with the S Max range as I was doing a lot of boat fishing and carp fishing and with a test curve of 3.5-4lb depending on how you set it up was more than capable of handling those types of fish.
More recently I have been looking to travel as light as possible due to the fact that I have fallen out of love with carp fishing due to the amount of toxic behaviours in that area of our amazing sport/hobby these days. Also swapping from a 4x4 with loads of space to a comfier coupe has considerably reduced the space in my car.
I am lucky enough to consider myself an all round angler so I have plenty of other styles of fishing and types of fish to concentrate on whilst I take a break from the carp for a while.
I looked at the range that was available from Rigged & Ready and there was instantly one combination set that stood out to me.
The X5 Adventure is a fantastic collection. The rod itself has a few configurations (including a fly rod) and is perfect for lure, ledger, float, game, coarse, dropshot, method and of course fly fishing. I have used this rod on the pier, the beach, marinas, canals, rivers and on lakes and it handles all the fish I’ve caught with no problem at all.
Rigged & Ready say that the rod can handle fish up to 12lb but I would happily play a fish up to 20lb on it. You also get a fly reel and a salt treated RR3000, 5 ball bearing steel reel which has a nice smooth action with strength and durability.
The standard combination kit comes with 4 interchangeable tips giving you 4 different cast weights and also the option of two rod lengths (6ft or 7ft) and also a switch handle converting the rod from spinning to fly easily.
There is a two-year guarantee on the rods and the customer service is some of the best I’ve experienced.
I have been using this rod for over a year now and can honestly say it is one of the best rods I have ever owned. It is so versatile, reliable and durable and as I am not known for being gentle on my fishing equipment that is quite an achievement.

Why Rigged & Ready?

If you have ever read Talking Carp or Catch Cult magazines then you will more than likely have seen one of my reviews and in particular one of my reviews of the Rigged & Ready Travel Rod range.
Rigged & Ready Travel Fishing Rods came out in 2016 when Andy Rigg brought them to market. I discovered the brand a few years later in early 2021 and started to show interest in these space saving rods.
Initially the two things that caught my attention were 1. They offered a two year guarantee on the rods with no hidden costs and also the compactness of the rods as there hasn’t been a good travel rod range on the market for years.
Once I had my first rod (World Traveller) and I had time to feel the quality and appreciate the space saving that was it… I realised that I didn’t need all of these huge rods that were getting in the way and taking up lots of space in my house and the struggle of fitting them into my car.
I became the first person that the brand to change my entire rod collection (fly, game, lure, coarse and sea) to the Rigged & Ready rods and reels.
Honestly, I haven’t looked back since. These rods and the reels are fantastic and as I’m not known for being gentle on my fishing tackle the 2 year guarantee and amazing customer service, is very refreshing as well.
I now have the X5 Adventure, S Mid, S Max, Travel Float Match (not sure if this one is still available) and World Traveller rods. I also have the RR1000, RR3000, RR5000 and RR6000 reels as well as the RR fly reel. You could say that I am and continue to be impressed with this brand and am more than happy to personally recommend the brand whenever I can as well as continue to use it.
I’m looking forward to seeing what the next innovation from the brand is and I’m sure it will more than likely be added to my growing collection.
