BULLET PROOF FISHING RODS? … ALMOST! Now the Science!

Well… Some of you wanted to know about our rod blanks. It’s not really a KFC size secret, however its more technical than you would think from a little Lake District rod company!

We all know things go wrong with fishing rods.  That’s why through our SRF rod blanks we plan to have as few issues as possible. So…. What on earth is SRF?

SRF has been specially developed to provide a super strong, reliable fishing rod blank. It is a blended hi-tech structure, designed to be used exclusively in our fishing rods.

SRF is a mix of four fibres; Zylon, Carbon and Graphite, are blended with High Intensity Stiff Glass Fibre, then coated in Epoxy, to provide the most rugged, but light and flexible rod blank. We all know about carbon and graphite. The introduction of Zylon and High Intensity Stiff Glass Fibre, plus Epoxy, is the key to the strength and reliability.

Zylon is 7 times stronger than Kevlar. It was developed by The US Air Force Research Laboratory, is in the Mars Lander, is used by NASA and is in bullet proof jackets. None of which has anything to do with fishing! The blend of materials, ensures the fibres in the rod are straighter with zero twist, delivering a flexibility 10 times and stiffness 30% greater than normal glass fibre.

We think (well we would) the SRF rod blank is the perfect balance between strength, reliability and light weight. It allows us to make the rods compact, provides a super strong, reliable fishing blank with a medium “Through Action”.

For the non-technical view…. Like our rods, the blanks are a blend of old ideas, mixed with new technology, made to be as tough and flexible as possible. They are not however, bullet proof, car proof, dog proof or tread proof.

Don’t worry if things go wrong or you lose them. We will replace them as fast as humanly possible!
